Salt Lake City Wedding Photographer and the Regret Free Wedding Podcast: Episode 10: Deciding When and Where to Get Married
Deciding when are where to get married are two of the biggest things you’ll decide during your wedding planning. Tune in because this episode is jam packed with so many things for you to know and consider!
In a future episode we’ll dive all into actually making the decision to get married so keep your eyes out for that but for now I’ll just give you this lil tidbit:
A relationship is like a plant. Oh, yes, we’re breaking out the analogies friends. A relationship is like a plant. A potted plant. When a plant is in a pot it can grow and flourish. But only to a point. There comes a time when the plant needs to be planted in the ground so it can grow to its maximum potential. If you keep the plant in the pot past its prime, the plant will start to wither and eventually die. If you put your plant in the ground before it’s ready, it won’t be able to withstand what comes its way.
You catching on? Deciding when you are ready to get married is a personal decision between you, God, and your groom. And if you really take a minute to think and introspect, you will know when you should get married. If you rush into it without actually feeling ready then no doubt you’ll have regrets. It’s like putting a plant out in the wind before it’s ready. If you stretch your dating or engagement on longer than the two of you know you should, your relationship will start to decline. Like keeping it in the pot too long. Don’t rush it. Don’t string it along. Follow what you know is right for you.
Another thing you should know is that with 100% confidence, I know a wedding can be planned in a matter of weeks or a matter of months. EVEN DAYS. Yes, days. Don’t let the norm of needing a long engagement hold you back from doing what works best for you two as a couple and for your relationship as a whole.
Now, like I said more to come in a future episode but for now, let’s assume you two are engaged and ready to choose a date and time for your wedding day. I see so many couples who choose the date and time for their wedding based on when everyone else can make it. When you are choosing when (and where for that matter) to get married, I want you to start with the two of you. You’re going to hear that a lot. Start with you two. What works best for your schedules and lives? Then make sure the people you absolutely must have at your wedding are available that day. Then check with the temple and/or venue. It might take a couple tries to find a day and time that works best. But once you have a date and time that meets those criteria, let others know and stick to it. Some people won’t be able to make it NO MATTER when or where you do it. The important thing is that it is what works best for you and your groom, the must have people in your life, and where you are getting married.
Budget and ease of life tip to consider is this: weekday weddings can save you SO MUCH in time and hassle. A lot of venues charge less and even other vendors do too sometimes when you’re willing to go outside of prime time of weekends. Or doing earlier on a Saturday. Also you have more pick of your sealing time and place when you don’t go with prime time. Once you know what temple or venue you want to get married in, contact them and get an idea of what days they have openings that work with your timeline. I would SO RECOMMEND starting here. Start by calling with a few days in mind that work for you and your must have, then call your venues and temple and see which one is going to be the best fit rather than only calling with one date in mind.
