Bride Guide #60 is tips on the dancing/ dances you chose to do at your wedding by Logan City Utah Wedding Photographer Lauren Kay Photography.

Confession time. Next to the speeches, this is one of the things I regret not including most. I totally
thought that I wasn’t really into having a first dance and that my dad wouldn’t want to do a daddy-
daughter dance anyway. But I so wish I would have. If you think you would enjoy dancing even just a
little, I would recommend it. Here’s why.
A daddy-daughter dance is so sweet. It’s a time for your dad and you both to have closure. Prior to this
point, your daddy has been the main man in your life. The one who has cared for you and provided for
you. This is the time for him to spend a moment with you and then pass you off to the new man in your
life – your groom.
(I totally recognize that this is not for everyone. If you don’t have a good relationship with your
dad or he has passed on, this probably isn’t for you. You can dance with a father-figure or a
brother, or just skip it all-together.)
The first dance is another tear-jerker. I love these. Music and dancing is so soul-stirring, especially when
you’re the one dancing. This can be such a special and intimate part of your day for you and your groom.
Even if you choose not to do any other dancing, I would recommend doing a first dance. If you’d rather
not do it in public, I’ve seen couples dance in a private room with only their photographer there. It’s up
to you!
After your first dance, you can keep the dancing going with slow or upbeat songs, or you can just end at
a first dance. This one is totally up to your personalities as a couple and what would be most meaningful
for you two.

Meaningful tip:
● Choreograph your dance! Seriously this is so fun. Find a dance teacher to help you and your groom
choreograph your first dance. And maybe even for you and your dad! Not only does it make you
feel more confident, but it also makes your dance more fun for you and everyone. It can also be a
fun way to surprise your guests. You can start out your dance like any good ole’ first dance and
then… boom! You break out into a “Dancing With The Stars” style routine. It’s so fun.
● If you or your husband have a cultural dance, incorporate it! I’ve seen a mainlander bride find a
luau teacher, learn a luau dance in secret, and then perform the dance for her husband during
their celebration.
