Bride Guide #4 from SLC Utah wedding photographer Lauren Kay Photography.
Now you may be wondering, why does your wedding even matter? Right? It’s just a day. Before I became a Utah wedding photographer, I thought the same thing.
Yeah. Truthfully it is just one day. But that one day changes your life forever. In that one day, you have a new family tree. Your trajectory is forever changed. A family and home and memories. An eternity together. They are possibilities now.
It is a day worth celebrating!

The Funeral
Not to get morbid, but here we go. Have you ever been to a funeral and walked away feeling a little better? A little more at peace? I have. And it’s because a funeral provides closure. Think about it. Why do we have funerals? We have them because we need that time to celebrate and reminisce on what was before we can let go and accept what is now.
You and all your closest loved ones also need closure. Your family becomes just you and your husband, not the family you came from. You go home to him, not your parents and siblings anymore. Your friends stay your friends, but it’s different. You are done being single and everything that goes along with it. Just like a funeral is a memorable event that helps us have closure, so is a wedding. It brings us and all of our closest loved ones the closure we need to wholeheartedly embrace this amazing new adventure. Your celebration needs to actually be a celebration so that you have that closure.

Prepare Not Plan
Aren’t you so excited to be married? To never have to say goodbye? Seriously, it’s the greatest thing. And your wedding? Well, it is the beginning of your marriage. That’s really why it matters. It’s not just your wedding day. We think of the wedding as the decorations and dress and flowers, but really it means so much more. And a beautiful wedding has everything to do with where your heart is and a lot less to do with the specifics.
So much more than all the planning, your whole soul needs to be prepared for this step. Some of this guide isn’t necessarily about your wedding. It’s about you. Some of it is mostly principle based and focuses little on the specific details. It may seem long and you may be tempted to skip it. Please don’t. These are the things that really, truly matter. The specific detail tips are just nice.
Prepare for your marriage. Don’t just plan your wedding.
