Bride Guide #44 gives you the first 3 tips to picking the perfect wedding cake By South Jordan Utah Wedding Photographer Lauren Kay Photography.

Wedding cakes are one of those traditions that has always been evolving. They date way back when to ancient Rome where they used to break a loaf of bread over the bride’s head for good luck. Hm. Thankfully it evolved to a stack of scones, then to pies, and, for now, to cakes. Maybe you’re all about
having a cake. I think they’re gorgeous too! But maybe you feel like cake isn’t really your thing. Even if you don’t want to do a cake, you can adapt this tradition to make it completely match your personalities.
Whether you do a cake or your favorite treat or whatever dessert you are serving your guests, you can choose to do whatever you want. It’s more important what the tradition represents not the fact that it’s cake. The tradition of cutting cake represents the first thing you do together as a couple and symbolizes commitment and unity. So cut a cake. Or bite a donut. Or have a cake made out of Oreos. Do whatever would be the most meaningful for the two of you!
Find a baker who’s style matches the cake you are envisioning. If they are a professional with fondant then they may not be the best fit for your buttercream, naked cake. As always, make sure they are kind and easy to work with. And in this case, make sure that their cake is delicious!
There are so many amazing flavors of cake you can do. There’s traditional ones like chocolate or red velvet, or flavors like almond poppyseed. Cake taste testing makes a great date night!
Cakes can be a beautiful part of your wedding décor. There are so many styles. You can do a classic three-tiered cake or a naked cake. The frosting can look like marble or have glitter on it. It can be a simple white cake with flowers or completely colorful. Find the style that you. and your groom love. Then, put thought into how you display it. Don’t hide it in a dark corner. Display it in a well-lit location with a beautiful display.
