How often do you get to buy flowers for yourself? Or hold a big, gorgeous bouquet and get your picture taken? I think this is the only time. Enjoy it! The flowers add such a special touch to your day.

Bouquet.

The bouquet really adds to your whole look as a bride. I am a sucker for big, beautiful bouquets. So I may be a little biased, but I don’t think this is a time to skimp. Get the best bouquet you can afford. Make it as big and beautiful as you want. If you want something more small and simple, that is totally fine. Just make it you. Do your research. And find the style that really speaks to you.

Your bouquet should show your personality and style. Don’t be afraid to add depth and texture to your bouquet. Ask your florist about branches, feathers, succulents, ribbons, or other items. And add those special touches that will make it meaningful. For example, one of my nicknames from my parents was
“sweet pea” so adding sweet peas would have been a special touch. Or wearing a laurel wreath because that is the root for my name, Lauren. Or add feathers because your groom loves to hunt. I’ve seen brides add little photographs of loved ones who have passed on. Your bouquet is an opportunity to express yourself and tell your story. Think of little touches you can add to make it extra special.

 

Other Florals.

In addition to your bouquet, you may want a floral crown or flowers for your hair. You’ll want a boutonniere for your groom. Flowers are also a time to thank and show your appreciation for those close to you. Usually you honor mothers and grandmothers with corsages, fathers and grandfathers and
groomsmen with boutonnieres, and bridesmaids with bouquets. You may also want flowers for a flower girl, ring bearer, or nieces and nephews. Flowers also look amazing as décor – on the tables, on your cake, on the arch or entrance – using flowers is one of my favorite ways to decorate.

The Bouquet Toss

Should you do a bouquet toss? It’s up to you. But here is my two-cents about it. Some wedding traditions are strange, meaningless, and really should go. In my opinion, this is one of them! Usually “All The Single Ladies” feel pretty awkward going to the middle of the room to dive for a bouquet. There are so many other ways to do something more meaningful. Here are my favorites:
● Take time during your celebration to give flowers in your actual bouquet to those who you want to honor.
● Do an anniversary dance. During your dancing, the DJ will have people step off the floor until the couple who has been married the longest is left. Give them your bouquet.
● Pass the torch and give your bouquet to a couple there who is about to get married.
● Have someone place your bouquet on the headstone of a loved one.
● Have a vase with flowers for people to take home in lieu of a bouquet toss.
● Preserve your bouquet and use it in your home as a decoration. If you opt for this, have your mom or a bridesmaid take it to get preserved for you while you’re on your honeymoon.
