This is likely the first vacation you get to go on together as a couple! How fun is that! The honeymoon is
an awesome time where you two can strengthen your relationship in every way. Do fun things! Spend
intimate time. Make the focus of your honeymoon getting to know each other better, having fun, and
strengthening your entire relationship.

1. Let your groom head it up.

You are likely in charge of planning basically everything else with the wedding. Let your
groom be in charge of the honeymoon! You can definitely decide together where to go and
what you want to do, but let him be in charge of the nitty-gritties.

2. Do it early.

The honeymoon should be one of the first things you start planning. Hotels, flights, Airbnb’s
fill up, so the sooner you can book them, the better.

3. Do what you can.

Stick to your budget and your time constraints, and make the most of it! If you can only do a
small little trip, or even just a staycation at your new place over the weekend, that’s okay!
We did a simple honeymoon and saved up for a cruise for our first anniversary and I’m really
glad we did. It was nice to have something to work toward and look forward to, and we
knew each other better. Everyone is different! Do whatever sounds the most fun and
enjoyable for both of you.

4. Book enough but not too much.

You want this to be a fun and relaxing time for you two to get to know each other better.
Try to avoid overscheduling your days. Usually simpler trips are best. But, you also want to
have things to do! Find the balance that makes sense for your personalities and make sure
you have enough planned that you won’t get bored, but not so much planned that you get
stressed.

5. Communicate beforehand.

Talk about your expectations for having sex beforehand. Even if you want to wait until your
honeymoon to chat about it, that’s great. But being on the same page about what the
intimate part of your honeymoon is going to look like is important.

● Go camping. If it’s your style, this is a super affordable option.
● Do a staycation. Decorate your new place with lights, get take-out or go out to eat, and explore
the city your live in together.
● Do a destination wedding. Then you’re already where you need to be for your honeymoon.
● Ask for it as a gift! Put your honeymoon fund on your registry. Or when people ask what they can
get you, ask them to contribute to your honeymoon.
● Go on the off-season. Going to a destination during their off-season means lower prices and less
travelers.
● Go on a mini-moon. Do a small honeymoon now, and a bigger trip on your anniversary.
