5 Tips For Choosing the Perfect Wedding Color Scheme

Bride Guide #23 is all about choosing the perfect wedding color scheme from Logan Utah Wedding Photographer Lauren Kay Photography.

Remember how you decided your style? That is your theme! Whether it’s classic or boho or country or a combination of a few, use the words you chose and your inspiration board to help you craft your personal style. You can search Pinterest for wedding inspiration using your style words. For example, if you chose the word timeless, you can search “timeless wedding” and use the images you find for inspiration.

Knowing your overall theme will help you in every decision from your dress to your cake to your colors and it helps your vendors cater to your style as well.

Color Scheme

Part of your overall style and wedding theme is choosing your color scheme. Here are five steps to choosing the perfect palette:

1. Think about your overall theme and venue.

First of all, what colors generally go with your overall theme? You don’t necessarily have to do those colors but it is helpful to think about what usually looks good with your theme. Then envision the venue where you dream of getting married or where you already have booked. What color scheme would look best with it? Choose a scheme that will go nicely with your venue and flows with your overall theme.

2. Get inspired from home décor.

Your wedding photos will be hanging in your home forever. And you may be using your wedding décor in your home. So, what better way to find colors you love than to think about what home décor you love. Hop on Pinterest or go to Hobby Lobby and see what home décor you gravitate toward.

3. Your personal favorites.

What colors do you love? If it’s a personal favorite and has been for a while, it might be a great color to include. Does it flatter you? You’ll want to choose colors that go well with your skin tone. This is also a great time to involve your groom. What colors does he love? Is there a way you can incorporate it nicely into your theme?

4. It’s all about the base.

How many colors are you allowed to have? You get to choose! I recommend having one base color and then adding as few or as many accents as you would like. When choosing the base, I recommend choosing something timeless that you will love forever. From there, you can stick with just the base, add gradients of the base color, complements of the base color, or accents that you think go nicely.

5. Explore your options.

You can do a simple black and white wedding, just greenery, a holiday theme, gradients of one color, or five totally different colors. There are so many options. Keep in mind your overall theme, explore the possibilities, and stick with your personal style.

Remember…

Keep the season in mind. Remember how we’re trying to make the most of our specific circumstances? It’s totally a good thing to embrace the season you are getting married in. So, if you’re getting married in the winter, maybe you’re going to totally embrace the long-sleeved dress or have hot chocolate at your celebration.
